All About Mark!

Hey, y’all!

I’m Mark Newsome.

Somewhere online I have a profile that simply says:

Leisure-Obsessed Travel Agency Co-Owner. Accountant. Former Higher-Ed Staffer. Southerner. Father. Husband. 

That’s me in a nutshell, especially the leisure obsession.

Oh, and I used to have really long hair.

Funny how scanned snapshots from 20 years ago look suspiciously like Instagramed photos today…

Yeah, that’s me.

It’s a photo of me and Jenn near the ridge of the Bridger Mountains just outside of Bozeman, Montana.

Here’s a little more recent one:

Fast forward 20 years and here we are last fall enjoying a date night, sans the munchkins (and the hair), at Epcot.

Why travel?

I have to thank my folks, Tom and Sue Newsome, for fostering a love of travel in me at an early age.

They did this by making possible trips to out of the way places like:

• Beaufort, North Carolina
• Kalispell, Montana
• Omsk, Russia, and
• Ulan Bator, Mongolia

…which was pretty counter cultural back in the 1970s and 80s when I was growing up in rural North Carolina!

These days, I’m the boy behind Southern Girl Travel.

I enjoy nothing more than helping you discover perfect, leisure-filled travel. 

I do that by creating content, taking photos, tweaking websites, and driving the minivan to the airport!

I also help travel-inclined folks with accounting questions.
