Southern Travel Girls strolling the beach at Jekyll Island, Georgia!
November 24, 2013
We made our first ever trip to Jekyll Island, Georgia last weekend. We were extremely impressed and look forward to future visits!
This was a quick trip lasting just from Saturday afternoon until late Sunday morning. Traveling from Florida back to North Carolina, we needed a break and decided to try a stop along the Georgia coast. It was a great short break, and we have to recommend it to any lovers of our pristine southern coast.
Kids with the biggest horseshoe crab we have ever seen!
We stayed along the beach at the Days Inn and Suites, and could not have been more pleased. Our room was great and had easy access to the heated pool, hot tub, fire pit, and beach. For supper, we ordered several pizzas from the Red Bug Motors Pizza & Pub, which hit the spot.
Though warm, the weather was windy, cloudy, and a bit rainy, and we did not get to enjoy the island as we had hoped. But, it was a short stop just to get a taste of Jekyll Island. The taste was great and we hope to be back soon.
Jekyll Island appears to have extremely controlled development and may be a great example of how to conserve our fragile southern coast for generations to come. Read more on the island’s blog.
