Beaufort, North Carolina…classiest Christmas decorations in the South!
It just turned December, didn’t it?
Christmas will be on us tomorrow, then winter getaways, spring breaks, summer vacations, and those wonderful early fall trips to the beach.
We get so many last minute planning requests from clients and friends…in fact we’re still getting requests for Walt Disney World trips between Christmas and New Year’s for this year! And just as a reminder for everyone, yes, the week between Christmas and New Year’s is the busiest and most expensive time to visit Walt Disney World!
Blue skies over Epcot!
Spontaneous trips can be amazing, but there are tons of great reasons to plan ahead, following are just a few:
Value: while every once in a while you can find a truly great last minute deal, in almost every case, planning well in advance of your desired dates will bring significantly more value for the price.
Sunrise at Sandals Royal Plantation…
Availability: nowadays, peak travel times at popular destinations book out years in advance. Just try booking that week after Christmas Disney getaway or that spring break at Beaches Turks and Caicos a few months ahead. Try again a year ahead and see the difference.
Those are just two, but do you know the real reason to plan ahead?
The real reason to plan ahead is the anticipation!
Yes, anticipation.
There was a study done some years ago about the link between happiness and anticipation. It focused on the happiness people found in simply planning that next big vacation, and the joy the planning itself brought (you can read about the study here and here).
Sunrise over Washington, North Carolina and the Pamlico River!
It’s the websites you visit, the books you read, the movies you watch, the food you eat, and music you listen to. It’s the daydreams you have about the trip. All these things, and more, combine to bring on a surprisingly high level of happiness before the trip ever happens.
The conclusion was that planning the getaway brought almost as much happiness as the getaway itself.
Anticipation!
