We’re moving into cooler months. For many of us that means daydreaming about (and planning trips to) warmer spots, further south.
Jennifer just returned from yet another trip to Caribbean without me, which is becoming an all too common occurrence. She had a ball visiting a number of spots around Jamaica, and she began her trip in Montego Bay.
Montego Bay, Jamaica is one of the commercial and cultural hubs of the western Caribbean.
It’s also the perfect spot to begin a Caribbean vacation.
Why?
1. A great location/climate! Jamaica is at the heart of the Caribbean, and Montego Bay is one of Jamaica’s most important cities. Though they get a little rain during the summer and the occasional hurricane (not unlike here in NC) the weather is warm year-round. What could be better in the middle of February than to find yourself on the beaches of Montego Bay.
2. The wonderful Caribbean Sea! That’s a no-brainer, the whole of Jamaica is surrounded by the beautiful blue and green waters of the Caribbean, and Montego Bay sits along the calm north shore of Jamaica.
3. It’s closer than you think! From the middle of North Carolina (say around our hometown of Burlington), a trip to the beach is a three to four-hour drive. Montego Bay is about a three-hour flight from North Carolina. Think about it, in the time it takes you to drive to Myrtle Beach or Emerald Isle, you can be lounging along the Caribbean in Montego Bay.
4. Amazing all-inclusive resorts! We like to think of Montego Bay as the gateway to enjoying all-inclusive resorts. The city has a high concentration of all-inclusive resorts at nearly every price point. We love Montego Bay because it has a few of our all-time favorite all-inclusive resorts – Sandals (those resorts include Royal Caribbean, Carlyle, and the first Sandals resort, Sandals Montego Bay). Check out Sandals’ official site here.

When you fly into Montego Bay (remember it’s only a 3-hour-or-less flight!) you’ll be landing at the Sangster International Airport. Sangster (MBJ) is one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean.
If you’ve ever arrived there at the same time as a dozen other planes full of tourists dying to hit the beaches, you’ll surely be happy to know there’s a quick way through the headaches of immigrations and customs.
Club Mobay is an arrival and departure service at Sangster that we believe is indispensable.
